Knee research

Dr Dwyer and Dr Chahal at Women’s College Hospital are conducting a study looking to determine which patients are at risk of cartilage damage after ACL reconstruction.  This study, in conjunction with the arthritis research program at Toronto Western Hospital, involves taking blood samples from patients before and after their ACL surgery – this blood is then studies looking for micro-RNA signals of early cartilage damage.

It is hoped that by being able to diagnose early signs of cartilage damage using blood tests that high risk patients could be identified, and treatment provided to protect these patients from early arthritis.
