Hip arthroscopy research

Dr Dwyer is one of three surgeons at Women’s College Hospital who perform hip arthroscopy, the largest center in Canada for this type of surgery.

The current hip arthroscopy research project is called FASTHip, a study that is looking to evaluate whether patients can fully weight bear on their operated hip following hip arthroscopy and labral repair.  Currently, patients are typically made to use crutches for 4 – 6 weeks following surgery, which can significantly interfere with return to normal life and work. However, there is good evidence that this may be unnecessary to obtain a good outcome after hip arthroscopy.

If you elect to have a hip arthroscopy, Dr Dwyer will likely discuss your potential involvement in this study.  While it would be great to have you participate in FASTHip, you are under absolutely no obligation to do so.
