Education research

Dr Dwyer’s main focus at this time is in the area of fellowship training.  The University of Toronto Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Group has eight fellows each year, making it the largest sports medicine training centre in Canada.

Dr Dwyer is focused on surgical assessment, looking at ways to ensure that orthopedic surgeons are competent at performing sports medicine surgery such as ACL reconstruction, shoulder stabilization, and rotator cuff repair prior to commencing independent practice.  Much of this work involves simulation, allowing trainee surgeons to perfect their techniques outside of the operating room.
